Author Guidelines

1. Description

Pensamiento y Cultura is a biannual philosophy journal published by the Universidad de La Sabana. Its goal is to serve as a specialized vehicle for circulating information on the progress and findings of research on philosophy. It accepts original articles for publication on topics relative to the history of philosophy and on philosophy and on issues concerning ongoing debates in the different fields of philosophical research.  The Editorial Board accepts articles in English, Spanish or French. All articles submitted for publication are subject to a double-blind peer review.

2. On material submitted for publication

In terms of length, articles should contain between 5,000 and 8,000 words. Priority will be given to the following types of articles submitted for publication:

a. Articles on research findings that include an introduction and a description of the methodology used, the results and conclusions;

b. Articles that reflect on the results of research from an analytical, interpretive or critical perspective on the part of the author;

c. Review articles that show results, systemization and progress in a particular field of study and offer a careful and exhaustive bibliographic review; and

d. Bibliographic reviews containing between 800 and 1,200 words may also be submitted for publication.

3. Review

All material submitted for publication is subject to a formal, academic review.

a. First, the Editorial Board verifies whether or not the material complies with the formal criteria established by the journal. These criteria are listed in the paper edition and on our website.

b. If the material passes this initial review, it is sent to at least two outside reviewers who are not members of the Editorial Board and are recognized experts on the topic in question. They examine the material to determine its scientific and methodological rigor. The journal has adopted a double-blind review method; consequently, neither the author nor the reviewer is aware of the other’s identity.

c. The reviewers may decide to accept an article or text, to accept it with changes, or to reject it. The author will be notified accordingly within a period of no more than 90 days from the date the material was received.

d. If the peer review results in a decision to “accept with changes,” the respective suggestions and indications are sent to the author to be included in the text, which may be resubmitted for publication. It is understood the material will be published once the relevant changes have been made.

e. Finally, all articles and texts are subject to copy editing for corrections and suggestions with respect to form.  No changes are made in substance or content, and the author’s personal style is respected. The edited text is sent to the author for approval prior to publication.
