El teatro religioso en el barroco mexicano
Abstract
The religious theater played an important role in the Colonial Mexican culture. In this article, the dramatic creation of its most representative exponents is presented. They are Francisco Bramon, Matías de Bocanegra, Francisco de Acevedo and Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. The author also emphasizes the main characteristics of their creation, for instance, the thematic influence of the Bible, the use of allegorical characters, carols of European origin influenced by the indigenous instruments, etc. It is stressed that the Mexican sacramental autos are accompanied frequently by the mythological and religious elements.
