Roberto d'Angiò e la Terra Santa
Abstract
The links between the Royal Family of Hungary and the Angioini Dynasty of Naples is twofold. Làzlò (1272-1290) married the daughter of Carlo D’Angiò, Isabelle, who was named Elisabeth in Hungary, and became the Queen of Hungary. In the same period Mary, the daughter of Stephen IV, King of Hungary, married Charles II, son of Charles d’Angiò. She became Queen of Naples and ordered the construction of the marvelous church Santamaria di Donnaregina, close to the famous Duomo di Napoli.
Their son Robert d’Angiò, born in 1278, had the merit of protecting the worship buildings in the Holy Land. His grave in Naples overhangs the high altar of the Santa Chiara Cathedral.
