De Sofía a Filosofía
Abstract
By using the original Greek texts, the author tries to show that the Greek s ophia, in the beginning (from Homer's times to Plato's and even partially to Aristotle) did not mean wisdom but, above all, the masterly skill of a practical nature. Also, in the beginning the word philosophia did not mean love for impartial knowledge of the truth in a scientific manner, but rather a passion for knowledge derived from curiosity (Herodotus and Thucydides). The construction of philosophy as a science, with its object, method and objective, definitely takes place only thanks to Aristotle. Even nowadays, scientifically-conceived philosophy has no equivalent in Eastern cultures and therefore, to talk about Chinese of Japanese philosophy is an arbitrary act.
