Recuerdo y olvido en la España contemporánea. Nuevos planteamientos historiográficos y de crítica literaria: textos y contextos
Abstract
Concepts such as "places of memory", "cultures of memories", "social memory", "surmounting the past", have become central themes of scientific debates, both for literary criticism and for historiography. This paper discusses different notions and definitions of memory, memories and forgetfulness. Three novels which are significant to illustrate the presence of memory aspects in the civil war, the Francoist dictatorship and the transition in Spanish narrative, are mentioned specially. Because of their heuristic and historical value, prominence is given to discourses coming from social sciences and from the culture of the German linguistic environment. The commitment is also to present and assess the latest historiographic tendencies, which benefit from the new outcomes of neurological and cognitive sciences.
