Abstract

This article is the result of a study that proposes a change in paradigm. Using speech as the referent, it moves from sentence structure to the structure of the statement, shifting from form to function in an effort to analyze tendencies in the behavior of the participle. Based on a corpus, the study incorporates, in its analytical stage, a syntactic semantic model that abides by the parameters of generative semantics. The objective is to demonstrate the linguistic behavior speakers assume when using the participle in various statements. In short, this proposal is a demonstration of the importance, in theory, of applying methods and complying with the assumptions and principles of modern linguistics to resolve the phenomena in language that remain unanswered.
