Abstract

The objective of this paper is to reconstruct of some of the key moments in the Hegelian argument on the notion of “free will”. At the same time, it is a critique –based on Hegel’s arguments– of what he called “arbitrary will”. The authors extend their critique to both the Kantian understanding and the idea of liberal freedom, arguing that the concept of free will is a fundamental principle in the practical philosophy of Hegel.

Guillermo Flores-Miller, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa.

Estudiante de Doctorado del Posgrado en Filosofía Moral y Política de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa. Maestro en Filosofía por la misma universidad, donde obtuve la medalla al mérito universitario. Becario de Conacyt. He realizado estancias de investigación en dos ocasiones en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Ha publicado “Libertad y justicia: La filosofía política de Porfirio Miranda”, en Mario Rojas, La filosofía de Porfirio Miranda; “Las críticas de K.-O. Apel a Facticidad y validez de J. Habermas”, en Iztapalapa. Revista de ciencias sociales y humanidades. Actualmente coordino el Seminario Permanente de Historia de la Filosofía en la Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México.
