The Principal Hermeneutical Questions Raised by Luigi Pareyson
Keywords:
Pareyson, ontological personalism, existentialism, dialectics, revelation.Abstract
Luigi Pareyson’s hermeneutics –based on an ontological personalism of existentialist tradition– affirms the revealing value of the person as a being inserted in history contrary to all kinds of historicisms rooted in Hegelianism. Pareyson holds that history possesses a revealing value insofar as it is tradition, a return to the origin or an ontological truth previous to any ideological formulation. For him, there is no dialectic, only moments of revelation in different cultures and a cultural heritage that is maintained through tradition so as to allow for a constant return to the origin, which vivifies the historical situation by providing it with depth and meaning.
