The mission of science: a reflection around the fulfillment of its task
Abstract
Modern man has aeeepted to be determined by prosperity and sueeess of seienees, with whieh he has also aeeepted to be a mere man, in fact, as Husserl has notieed. It beeomes imperative then, to ref1ect on the inherent limits of scientifie
undertakings with the interest to understand rus eapaeity in the fulfillment of this task and the problems relative to his union or not with other's knowledge. The limitations of seienee indicate the existenee of problems in their assignment that for fundamental reasons -theoretieal or praetieal- scienee is unable to solve. The cause is not an error of internal or external validity of seienee, but the way of organizing knowledge; a knowledge related to progress, blind and uneontrolled, incapable of reeognizing other's knowledge and, therefore other possibilities to approach to reality. A ref1ection on seientifie undertakings in relation to the aspeets previously indicated allows us to prevent the unrealistie expectations and alienations that have been provoked.
